Education Coordinator

The Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses are seeking a full-time education coordinator to handle the responsibilities listed below. We are located in a beautiful, historic setting at the edge of the French Quarter; it is easily accessible and truly one of a kind. Please send us your resume and a brief cover letter highlighting any relevant experience and skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Set-up, organize, and implement field trips requiring communication with staff and teachers, logistical planning, and negotiating presentations and prices.
  • Develop and implement outreach to schools which requires networking, marketing, regular communication, and reviewing contact information for errors.
  • Organize and implement special programs. These programs require school visits, field trips, dissemination of information and a lot of planning!
  • Schedule, plan, and implement workshops with The Girl Scouts of Southeast La
  • Inventory and organize education supplies.
  • Plan camps including schedule, activities, budget, marketing, and partners
  • Communicate with partners and future partners via phone, email, and meetings.
  • Meet with partners at the annual French Quarter Festival. Organize staff and activity for FQF.  Reach out to old and new partners.
  • Organize, file, and keep track of all education-related material such as schedules, photos, forms, program files, and contacts.
  • Participate in community events to publicize our program as well as to network and gain information.
  • Communicate with local universities regularly to set up internships.  Meet with interns, design programs that fit with their needs and ours.  Follow up to make sure they get their credit.
  • Manage staff for education-related activities or events.
  • Work with the Executive Director and the Chief Curator to set goals and plan for future educational programs, including acting as a resource during grant applications.
  • Utilize social media platforms to share our mission of education with others.

The above responsibilities require:

  • Regular communication via phone, email, text, and in-person.
  • Utilization of software, constant contact, Prezi, and many other programs to develop and design programing and more.
  • Physical work of entertaining, educating, and corralling students and children.
  • Occasionally off-site presentations at various locations.

Other work performed:

  • Conduct tours and open and close house and shop when needed.
  • Meet with and discuss programs and events with all staff, with the oversight of the Executive Director.
  • Assist with exhibits in the shop and in the houses.
