Summer Camp Schedule 2010

Historic Houses Museum Camps

May 24-28, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
May 31-June 4, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
August 2-6, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
August 9-13, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Camp participants should be entering kindergarten through 4th grade.

 

Cost: $150 per week, before- and after-care available for an extra fee. Camp registration is on a week-by-week basis, so it is not necessary to sign up for all sessions.

Children in grades kindergarten through fourth grade will enjoy culinary traditions, French Quarter field trips and archaeology as well as 19th-century games, fashions and activities!

Camp meets at the Gallier House museum each day,
at 1132 Royal Street.

Week one: May 24-May 28

Museum Camp

9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Before- and after-care available (7:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.)

Museum Camp -- French Quarter field trips, hearth cooking (including butter churning and ice cream making), 19th-century crafts and activities.

Bring lunch, snacks provided.

Week two: May 29-June 4

A Taste of History

9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Before- and after-care available (7:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.)

9:00 a.m.-12 noon
" A Taste of History"
For the second year, this camp will be taught by Isidore Newman Lower School Science teacher, Jennifer Williams. It will combine French Quarter field trips, culinary history and traditions, hands-on cooking (and the science and math behind cooking) and culminate in a family feast!

12 noon - 3:00 p.m.
"19th-Century Games and French Quarter Adventures"
Jodi Meekhof, Isidore Newman Lower School teacher, will combine museum field trips and "back of house" museum exploration with 19th-century children's games for fun, adventure and learning!

Bring lunch, snacks provided.

August camps will include 19th-century children's activities...sewing, quilting, cooking and many other aspects of daily life! Stay tuned!

History Camp

9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
French Quarter Field Trips.

12 noon - 3:00 p.m.
Simple sewing and quilting, needlework, doll-making and other crafts.
