Pages of Time: A Mother/Daughter Adventure!

Join us in the historic French Quarter for literary discussions, refreshments and art projects. Mothers and daughters will venture back in time through historical fiction and delight in the splendor of the past.

June Selection: Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott

Come celebrate this beloved novel about four sisters coming of age in the 19th century. Our gathering will include a discussion of the characters, with a special emphasis on the similarities and differences between their lives and the little women of today. Like the March sisters, readers will create journals to take home and enjoy.

July Selection: Hitty, Her First Hundred Years, by Rachel Field

Travel around the world with Hitty, a wooden doll carved in 1820, as she journeys from owner to owner over the course of a century, visiting such exciting places as Boston, New York, India, the South Pacific, and even New Orleans! Bring your favorite doll for high tea and enjoy a special craft.

August Selection: The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, by Jacqueline Kelly

Explore the wonders of the natural world alongside the precocious Calpurnia, a young girl who finds more joy in collecting specimens with her grandfather than she does in needlepointing or cooking. When she is given Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species, her mother becomes concerned with her daughter's newfound fascination and, in an effort to mold her into a proper lady, insists that she make her formal debut into society--much to Callie Vee's dismay. Hone your scientific skills as we make terrariums in the courtyard garden.
