GIVEAWAY: Register and attend this lecture for a change to win a copy of Ota's book, The Kitchen. We will choose 4 lucky winners!
This presentation outlines Ota’s journey through history in search of the perfect kitchen design. The journey will focus on the kitchen as the centrepiece for describing the history of the North American house, kitchen design, roles of men and women, food, and cooking. We will tour significant houses, including the houses of Julia Child, Georgia O’Keeffe and Elvis Presley-- and of course, the open-hearth kitchen at Hermann-Grima House as well, which is featured in Ota's book, The Kitchen. Topics will include the development of the kitchen, architectural layout, origins of appliances, foods, drinks and cooking methods. The objective is to present the history of the kitchen and provoke discussion concerning the future of the home, the kitchen and cooking for all citizens.
