Courtyard Camp Session 1

  • Hermann-Grima House 820 St. Louis Street New Orleans, LA 70112 (map)

Our engaging week-long summer camp sessions explore 19th century life in New Orleans through crafts, games, and project-based learning. Campers ages 7-12 gain a better understanding of the past during our camp by exploring two Historic Houses in the French Quarter, making 19th century home remedies, and being exposed to artistic, culinary, and horticultural techniques.

2022 Courtyard Camp Sessions:
- June 6-10
- July 11-15
*Camp runs from 9 AM - 3 PM with Before and After Care available.

Because of its rich history and culture, New Orleans is a great place for summer camps because young people can explore fields in the humanities, architecture, and culinary arts in a way that builds their knowledge of the culture yet exposes them to possible fields early on.

Project-based learning is an important aspect to building critical thinking skills. As the campers work in groups for the various games and activities related to cooking or exploring the themes of the homes, they are using problem solving and communication skills for a goal larger than themselves. Since the focus of the camp would largely be learning of 19th century living, they will consistently be engrossed in learning that is connected to something real and practical. When learning is done through experience and hands-on approaches, the campers will come away with critical thinking skills gained from activities with a real-world focus.
