Open-Hearth Cooking Demonstration

  • Hermann-Grima House 820 St. Louis St New Orleans, LA 70112 (map)

Did you know that the Hermann-Grima House has one of the oldest original open-hearth kitchens still in operation in the area? Built in 1831, the historic open-hearth, potager, and beehive oven are used regularly for demonstrations and workshops at the Hermann-Grima house and slave quarters. The kitchen has been the focus of educational programs, published research, and symposia over the years.

While on guided tours, historic cooking demonstrations tempt the senses and expand the mind, offering a truly immersive experience. All methods, materials, and tools used in our open-hearth cooking are authentic to the 19th-century, and dedicated volunteers use original recipes from our own Creole Cookery and other historic cookbooks.

Book your tour to enjoy this one of a kind experience!
