A Final Farewell

  • Gallier House 1132 Royal Street New Orleans, LA, 70116 United States (map)

In partnership with the Museum at the Old Ursuline Convent and St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, this tour is a thorough look at the mourning and burial practices of New Orleans. Guests will begin with “Creole Death and Mourning” at Gallier House – an 1860s Victorian townhome dressed for mourning - where they will learn about a time period when death and the macabre were pervasive. Followed by a visit to the Museum at the Old Ursuline Convent for a tour of the new exhibition "Eternal Life." This exhibit highlights exquisite reliquaries, personal effects from deceased Archbishops, archaeological artifacts from St. Peter Street Cemetery, a photographic essay about All Saints’ Day, and it traces the Gallier Family through church records. Visitors are then asked to make their way to St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 (**transportation not provided**) for an hour-long tour of this iconic resting place.
