About Creole Death and Mourning:
The attitude of mourning in a Creole household was indeed pervasive. It was everywhere, from the coffin in the parlor to the playthings in the nursery. Mourning rituals were an integral part of Catholicism’s required ceremony and a sincere effort to remember departed relatives and friends. Join us at Hermann-Grima House, throughout the month of October trough All Saints Day where we recreate the wake of Madame François Albert Xavier Grima (Anne Marie Filiosa), mother of Felix Grima, who died in Hermann-Grima House on October 15, 1850 at age 96.
