Last Day of Summer Dress Exhibition at Gallier House

  • Gallier House 1132 Royal Street New Orleans, LA 70116 (map)

During the heat and humidity of New Orleans' summers, enslaved individuals and later domestic servants would have changed the interior of Gallier House to "summer dress" in the 19th century. This housekeeping practice was a way to alleviate the heat and protect the home during a time when the windows were constantly open.

As the tropical climate returns to the city, we're changing Gallier House over to summer dress for a special, seasonal tour. Learn about this laborious practice and the dangers of disease that accompanied summers in the city. Summer Dress guided tours start Wednesday, May 29, 2024 and end Monday, September 9, 2024.

Earlier Event: September 2
Museum Closed for Labor Day
