american horror story: coven (Season 3)

Episode One of American Horror Story: Coven opens within Madame Lalaurie’s mansion in 1834. Later in the episode the witches tour the modern-day home-turned-museum. In reality the legendary Lalaurie Mansion is still a private home.  The Hermann-Grima House stands in for the lavish interiors while our sister home, Gallier House, represents the exterior.

These were mulattos, quadroons and octaroons, free, prosperous, talented who sought to survive as free people under racist laws in slavery days. The cast include the rich Lermontant family. It was the Hermann-Grima House in New Orleans that inspired Rudolph Lermontant's home in the novel…”

I’ve toured the Gallier House many a time thinking, ah, this is where Louis and Lestat and Claudia live in my heart.

After the book was published, I found the Gallier House on Royal Street to be almost exactly what I had imagined, except for the balconies. I've toured the Gallier House many a time thinking, ah, this is where Louis and Lestat and Claudia live in my heart…”
